“And God said “Love Your Enemy,” and I obeyed him and loved myself.”
– Kahlil Gibran, The Broken Wings
Surprisingly, when people say they wholeheartedly want a relationship, money, or their dream life, they actually don’t feel they deserve it. Most people do not have full, enthralling, euphoric love for themselves, they only make due with themselves. Self-love is not just a human practice. It is the conscious and subconscious knowing that you are Divine love. All of the superficial acts in the world will not penetrate the depths of your soul. Self-love is something which is birthed from within and reflected outward. Many people believe that having things, be it a marriage or partnership, high paying career, material possessions, or social status, that they will suddenly be able to love themselves. It is also believed that outside practices and rituals will create more feelings of love. While it is important to take care of oneself and gift yourself with pleasures and delights, all external things are impermanent. As I have stated, money will provide you nothing but the amplification of what you already feel and believe. Things outside of ourselves can be given and removed, but a full knowing of ourselves as Divine love changes every cell in our being and reflects Divine love into every facet of our lives.
When you are fully able to love yourself, you are also able to love others completely and wholly as they are. Self-love isn’t just about being selfish in loving oneself and putting oneself first. Holy self-love is knowing and understanding that we are Divine love. When we understand this concept, we are able to love more freely which includes self-love. It is not something we have to practice because it is already a part of our genetic makeup. You do not need to practice breathing or blinking. These are actions in which have very little to no thought yet we practice them millions of times a day.
Self-love should be something that is innate in your being and something which is practiced with no thought at all. When we realize that we are the reflection of Divine love, and that our souls are created from Divine love, we no longer need to practice the human traits of loving oneself.
As we uncover our own Divine love it begins to radiate into our lives, relationships, and into the world. Holy self-love is unwavering to outside circumstances because the circumstances of man have no effect on Divine love. All which is irrelevant and impermanent break against the stone walls of self-love. Knowing yourself as Divine love will shatter the beliefs and mistreatments of man. We no longer take anything personally, as nothing is personal. We create space for ourselves where it’s needed, and only allow that which serves our Divinity into our lives. Know yourself as Divine love. Realize the Truth of who you are as a soul and that your very make up is that which you are seeking.
